This week brought a lot of rain and some thunderstorms!
Several around the area reported as much as eight total inches for the Thursday and Friday rains, and it rained again much of the day on Saturday. Area creeks, streams, and ditches overflowed; and several area roads were closed due to flooding.
South Union Baptist Church gathered for worship today, and Brother Dan’s message was “The Unlikely Outsider” from James 2:25-26. Luke accompanied the congregation for “We Have Heard the Joyful Sound.”
The Sunday School children enjoyed chocolate cupcakes in honor of Flag Day, learned about Jude, the half-brother of Jesus, and made Psalm 119 bookmarks.
Next week, the church will hold a special Father’s Day Service on June 21st, and the church will host a free fellowship lunch after the service on June 28th! All are welcome!
Representatives of MoDOT came to Maywood on Friday to view the completed sidewalk project and address a few remaining issues. They stopped by Myrtle Mae’s for lunch and also briefly visited the church parking lot and viewed the new entrances.
Congratulations to Tyler and Trevor Wilson, who recently returned from Canada after a successful bear hunt! Both young men harvested bears with their bows, and Trevor’s bear will be included in the Pope and Young record book!
Tyler and Trevor are the sons of David and Sherry Wilson of Hannibal, and Tyler and Trevor have helped my husband Bobby and our boys with some trapping and fencing projects in recent months.
Luke, Jacob, and Elijah Shepherd presented 4-H speeches and demonstrations to Karen Coleman at the Extension Office this week in order to qualify for the state contests. Luke demonstrated my mother’s meatloaf recipe, and Jacob and Elijah did a team demonstration for Honey Pecan Pie.
