Elaine Schwartz Longacre, 82, of Nelsonville, MO, passed away at 1:28 PM, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, MO.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.
Pastor Marty Smyser will officiate. Burial will follow at Nelsonville Baptist Church Cemetery in Nelsonville, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Elaine’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.

Elaine was born May 14, 1944, in Chicago, IL, to Arthur J. Schwartz and Josephine A. Ziaja Schwartz. She was married to George “Fred” Longacre on June 4, 1966, in Macomb, IL. He preceded her in death October 4, 2022.
Survivors include her children, Sally (Mark) Hills of Boone, NC, Steve Longacre of Lake
Villa, IL, grandchildren, Rebecca Hills, Matthew Hills, Evan Longacre, Stephanie Longacre, Delaney Longacre, brother, Gary (Julie) Schwartz of Punta Gorda, FL, sisters, Judy Hutchin of Gatlinburg, TN, Terry (Allan) Goldstein of Elk Grove
Village, IL, sister-in-law, Barbara (Raymond) Bentley of Macon, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Bill Schwartz.
Professionally, Elaine dedicated many years to education as a middle school teacher at Palmyra Schools, where she taught physical education, health, and later a beloved art teacher. She also instructed Hunter Safety and First Aid courses and served as a cheerleading coach. She previously taught at Marion County Schools and in her younger years, she worked as a lifeguard throughout high school and college.
Elaine was a gifted artist with a passion for watercolor painting. Her favorite subjects
included landscapes, fruit, barns, bridges, horses, pet portraits, and unique paintings
created on road maps. She also loved horseback riding and was a proud member of the Palmyra Saddle Club.
Her many interests included gardening and flowers, collecting salt and pepper shakers
and animal trinkets, and dancing. She was actively involved in her community as a member of the Farm Bureau Board, a CASA volunteer, a member of the Prairie Sunshine Garden Club, and attended Nelsonville Baptist Church.
Above all, Elaine will be remembered for her kind and loving heart. She had a warm
smile for everyone she met and touched countless lives with her generosity, compassion, and gentle spirit.
Pallbearers will be Mike McKenzie, Eric Spratt, Bill Graves, Scott Herman, Evan
Longacre and Israel Bevill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Palmyra Food Pantry.
