Girls tennis team goes 3-0 during week

The PHS girls tennis team went 3-0 this past week, winning matches against Hannibal, Kirksville and Father Tolton.

Palmyra (7-1-1) capped the week with a 7-2 win at home over Father Tolton.

Winning singles matches were Jaynee Durst, 8-2; Reese Gottman, 8-5; Bianca Perkins, 8-2; and Rylee Ingram, 8-4.

Winning the three doubles matches were Katy Rindom and Maura Gottman, 8-6; Durst and Ingram, 8-5; and Reese Gottman and Perkins, 8-4.

The JV squad fell to Father Tolton, 1-4, to go 4-1 on the season.

Emmalee Drebes and Jeorgia O’Brien won their doubles match 6-2.  

The Lady Panthers started the week with a close 5-4 win at Hannibal Monday.

“Doubles started off really strong but we struggled with singles tonight,” said Coach Jessica Gottman. “Thankfully Jaynee (Durst) and Rylee (Ingram) were able to win their singles to pull off the match win for us.”

Durst won her match, 8-3, over Brooklyn Haye, while Ingram won, 8-5, over Lanie Private.

All three doubles pairs won including Rindom and Maura Gottman, 8-4; Durst and Ingram, 8-2; and Perkins and Reese Gottman, 8-1.

The JV squad won 6-2.

Winning matches were Abbey Mann and Ava Browning, 6-3; Blaize Bross and Brooke Sullivan, 6-5, 7-5T; Hadlie Kroeger and Taytum White, 6-1; Maggie Keim and Rilee Shrum, 6-0; Natalie Bartz, 6-1; and Dorian Sheputis, 6-3.

Palmyra also swept Kirksville on the road Tuesday.

Winning singles matches were Rindom, 8-1; Maura Gottman, 8-5; Durst, 8-0; Reese Gottman, 8-0; Perkins, 8-3; and Ingram, 8-6.

Winning doubles matches were Rindom and Maura Gottman, 8-4; Durst and Ingram, 8-0; and Reese Gottman and Perkins, 8-0.

The JV squad also won 4-2.

Winning matches were Mann and Sullivan, 8-1; Browning and Bross, 8-2; Drebes and O’Brien, 8-3; and Tessa Richmond and Taylor Stratton, 8-1.

Post-season assignments were announced last Monday, and Palmyra was placed in Class 1, District 7 along with Father Tolton Regional Catholic, Fulton, Mexico and Moberly.

Mexico will serve as the host site.
