The Marion County R-II girls basketball team went to 3-0 to start the new year last week, downing Madison, Brashear and Novinger.
The Lady Mustangs capped the week with a 58-27 victory at Novinger, Friday.
The Lady Mustangs (6-3) held their opponents to single-digit scoring in every quarter and iced the game with a 21-9 third-quarter run.
Four Lady Mustangs scored in double figures including Delaney Straus, 18, Riley Donath, 11, Tristan Holt, 10, and Olivia Wood, 10.
Contributing were Haile Keilholz, five, Jordan Chatfield, two, and Madison Stewart, two,
Straus collected eight assists and nine steals to lead the team.
Marion County sank seven three-pointers in a 54-32 win at home over Brashear, Thursday.
Straus scored a team-high 17 points, and Keilholz and Donath combined to sink six shots from outside the arch and scored 16 and 12 points respectively.
Also contributing were Stewart, five, Holt, two, and Wood, two.
The Lady Mustangs opened the new year with a 51-31 victory at Madison, Tuesday.
Marion County shot just 28 percent from the floor, but sank 11 three-pointers and eight of 12 free throws.
Keilholz sank three treys and led the team with 14 points, while Donath hit three long shots and scored 13 points to match teammate, Straus.
Straus and Donath combined to collect 17 rebounds, while Straus grabbed eight steals.
Wood led the team with four assists while scoring five points.
This week, the lady Mustangs were scheduled to host Wellsville-Middleton, Monday, and travel to LaPlata, Thursday.
The Lady Mustangs learned last week they will travel to Green City for this year’s Class 1, District 11 Tournament which will also include Atlanta, Brashear, Green City, La Plata, North Shelby and Novinger.
