Mundy, Ragar advance to wrestling sectionals

Two Palmyra girls wrestlers moved on to sectionals following successful district competition in Wentzville Friday and Saturday.

Dyoni Mundy and Anna Ragar both finished fourth in their weight classes at districts and will compete in sectional competition in St. Clair this Saturday.

Two other Lady Panthers, Emma Watkins and Keri Schindler, also competed but did not qualify.

Mundy went 2-2 before losing her third place match in the 122-pound weight class.

She won her first two matches, by fall at 0:19 over Timberland’s Natalie Koester and by fall at 3:02 over Francis Howell’s Stevie Lupo before falling in the semifinals by fall at 2:49 to McClure North’s Natalie Schaljo.

She then won her consolation semifinals match by fall at 0:28 to St. Charles’ Kiernan Sutton before losing by fall at 3:41 to Wright City’s Elizabeth Riggs.

Ragar went 2-2 in the 117-pound weight class, losing her third place match by fall at 0:50 to Wright City’s Samantha Byerley.

Ragar won her quarterfinal match by fall at 4:00 over Byerley, but lost her semifinal match by fall at 1:27 to St. Charles’ Hayley Newtown.

She reached the third-place match by winning her consolation semifinal match by fall at 1:42 to Ft. Zumwalt West’s Alexis Pudlowski.

Watkins, who earned two byes in the 102-pound weight class, lost both of her actual matches.

Schindler went 1-2 in actual matches in the 127-pound weight class, downing Danita Smith, of McCluer, by fall at 1:36.

The state tournament is set for March 9-13.
