Zachariah “Zak” Ross Merkel of Washington, Mo., passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021.

He was born Feb. 29, 1984.
He is survived by his mother, Victoria McBride, and her husband, Stephen, Labadie, Mo.; his father, Rick Merkel, and his wife, Laura, Washington; grandparents, Norman and wife, Linda, Seeger, Palmyra; and Guido Merkel, Palmyra; one sister, Andrea Merkel, Chicago, Ill.; and many other family and friends.
Zak served in the United States Marines.
A private burial with full military honors will take place in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.
Visitation for 36-year-old Zak Merkel will be held Thursday, March 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington.
Memorials are preferred to the Merkel Family Education Fund (c/o Andrea Merkel).
