PHS boys finish fourth at districts, advance in eight events

The PHS boys track and field team finished fourth at districts in Monroe City Saturday and qualified for this Saturday’s sectional meet in eight events.
The Panthers scored 83.5 points to finish behind Monroe City (137), Highland (103) and Putnam County (84), but ahead of Milan (77), Louisiana (61), South Shelby (48.5), Brookfield (32), Mark Twain (26), Westran (20), Salisbury (19), Clark County (17), Marceline (17) and Van-Far (16).
Abe Haerr, won two individual events and took third in another, while Hayes Miller won one in leading Palmyra.
Qualifying for sectionals by placing in the top four were:
Haerr, first place in the 800 meters at 2:04.15; first place in the 1,600 meters at 4:46; and third place in the high jump at 1.80 meters;
Miller, first place in the 400 meters at 51.57;
Carson Hicks, second place in the high jump at 1.85 meters;
the second place 4 x 400 meter relay team of Miller, Hicks, Gideon Bogue and Haerr at 3:35.89; and
Weston King, second place in the discus at 45.65 meters and third place in the shot put at 14.00 meters.
Caleb Juette and Connor Bross just missed qualifying in the 3,200 meters, finishing fifth and sixth respectively.
The top four at sectionals will advance to the Class 3 state meet, which will be held Saturday, May 29, at Atkins Stadium in Jefferson City.
