PHS boys bring home four state medals

The trio of PHS boys track and field athletes of Weston King, Abe Haerr and Hayes Miller brought home four medals and the 4 x 400 meters relay team one other from the Class 2 State Championships in Jefferson City Friday.

As a team, Palmyra finished in a 12-place tie with Spokane with 20 points.
King, a senior, led the way by placing third in the shot put and fifth in the discus.

King threw the discus 159 feet, four inches to finish behind only Putnam County’s Colder Evans (166 feet, five inches) and Fayette’s
Joshua Henderson (162 feet, 10 inches).
King notched a throw of 47 feet, 11.75 inches in the shot put to finished fifth.
Harrisburg’s Brayton Stephenson won the event with a throw of 52 feet, 4.75 inches, while Evans took third at 56 feet, 11.5 inches.
Haerr, won a medal in the high jump, placing eighth with a leap of six feet, three-quarters inches.

The senior just missed medaling in the 1,600 meters with a ninth-place time of 4:34.76.
He also came close in the 800 meters with a 10th place time of 2:03.21.
Miller finished fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 50.61.
The sophomore also took 10th place in the 100 meters, missing a medal by two places, with a time of 11.34.
Miller and Haerr also teamed with Gideon Bogue and Carson Hicks to place fifth in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:32.81.
