The PHS baseball team dominated the Clarence Cannon Conference and reaped the rewards with the announcement of this year’s all-league team.
Palmyra had six players named to the 2021 CCC All-Conference Baseball team including Bennett Stice, who was named Player of the Year, and Mark Loman, Coach of the Year.
Named to the first team along with Bennett, a senior pitcher, were senior infielders Zane Meyers and Wade Begley and junior outfielder, Landyn Smith.
Making the second team were Brody Lehenbauer, a senior infielder, and Alex Loman, a junior catcher.
Stice was the conference’s most dominate pitchers going 7-1 with a 0.64 earned run average. The right-hander struck out 113 in 54.2 innings pitched while walking 22 and giving up just 22 hits. He allowed only five earned runs all season.
Stice was no slouch at the plate, batting .347 with two doubles and a triple.
Meyers led the Panthers with a .419 batting average and paced the team with 31 hits and 16 stolen bases without getting caught, along with a .521 on-base average.
The regular shortstop also hit two home runs and scored 26 runs.
Begley batted .306 with 27 runs scored and 22 runs and 22 RBI while stealing 12 bases. He hit three home runs, one triple and three doubles.
Smith lead the team with 27 runs scored and stole 11 bases without getting caught. He hit just .203, but collected 16 walks to have a .409 OBP.
Lehenbauer batted .385 and collected a team-high 18 walks, contributing to a .500 OBP.
He scored a team-high 36 runs, while hitting four doubles and stealing 10 bases while getting caught just once.
Loman had a .360 OBP with two doubles and 15 RBI.
