The PHS Panther football season ended quietly with a 34-7 loss at home to Macon in the district semifinals.

The Panthers gave themselves a chance to get back in into the game by converting a successful onside kick to start the second half.
Palmyra could not muster a consistent offense and had little answer for the potent passing game put up by the Tigers who move on to a Class 2, District 7 title game at Maryville this Friday.
Palmyra ended the season 4-6 after losing three of their final four games.
Both teams kept each other in check for most of the first quarter, before the Tigers broke out in a big way.
Macon took a punt at their own 35 with 2:36 left in the quarter, and on the first play, quarterback, Mykel Linear, fired a pass to wide receiver, Chrisjen Riekenberg, who burned the Panthers for a 65-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
The Tigers struck again on their first possession of the second quarter, when on the third play from scrimmage, Linear connected with wide receiver, Bryant Carpenter, for a 38-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.

Palmyra’s Christian Johnson disrupted a Macon pass play with hard hit on a Tiger receiver.
Palmyra soon received an opportunity to get back in the game, when defensive lineman, Noah Getz, recovered a
Tiger fumble on the Macon 16 yard line.
Running back, Landyn Smith, gave Palmyra first and goal with and 11-yard run on the first play, and two plays later dove over from the one for what would be Palmyra’s only score with 3:27 left in the half.
Macon took a 21-7 lead into halftime when running back Trevin Shrum capped an eight-play, 40-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge with 0:21 left in the half.
Palmyra had other opportunities to score in the game, but could not capitalize on them.
Running back Nolyn Richard broke a 30-yard run to give Palmyra first and 10 at the Macon 30 earlier in the game, but the drive ended on downs at the Macon 28.
Then, Palmyra converted, yet, another onside kick to open the second half, but the ensuing drive ended on downs at the Macon 37.

Landyn Smith dives into the end zone for Palmyra’s only score in Friday’s game.
The Tigers then offered help on their next drive too, when Linear threw a pass right to Richards, playing linebacker, and he intercepted it and returned it to the Macon eight-yard line.
But a bad snap and a false start penalty pushed the Panthers back and the drive ended on downs at the Tiger 21.
Still down 21-7, the Panthers got an additional chance when they forced a fumble on Macon’s next possession and took over on offense at the Tiger 20.
But, an interception on fourth and 8 from the Macon 18 ended the Panthers last opportunity real opportunity to make a game of it.
That’s because Macon then went on a 13-play, 60-yard drive which ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Linear, putting the Tigers up 28-7.

Panther quarterback, Colin Arch, tries to escape a Tiger defender during Friday’s loss.
Palmyra would reach Macon territory just one more time, while the Tigers tacked on their final seven points on a two-yard touchdown run on the first play of
the fourth quarter.
Macon piled up 404 total yards of offense with Linear completing eight of 18 passes for 207 yards. Riekenberg, an all-conference first team selection, finished with four catches for 91 yards.
Palmyra managed just 151 yards of offense with 110 coming on the ground as Richards led the way with 16 rushes for 91 yards.
