The Marion County R-II girls basketball team captured the third-place trophy at the Monroe City Tournament Friday.
The Lady Mustangs (5-1) bounced back from their first defeat of the season in the semifinals to win convincingly, 66-40, over Highland.

Three players scored in double figures for Marion County including Delaney Straus, 19, and Halle Keilholz and Madison Stewart, with 10 each, while Riley Donath just missed doing so with nine.
The Lady Mustangs fell short of reaching the championship game with their first loss of the season, 59-48, at the hands of Palmyra Thursday.
Palmyra grabbed the early advantage to build an eight-point halftime edge.
The Lady Panthers added to that lead early on the third quarter thanks, in part, to their pressure defense which forced some turnover scores.
But the Lady Mustangs were able to soften the blow some with a late third quarter recovery that kept Palmyra’s lead to 10 going into the final period.
They were only able to trim the deficit by one in the fourth and had to settle for going to the third-place game.
Straus sank 10 field goals in scoring a game-high 22 points, while Madison Stewart hit four three-pointers for 12 points.
Also scoring were Donath, nine, and Keilholz, five.
Marion County struggled at at the free-throw line hitting just six of 17 charity shots.
The Lady Mustangs opened tournament play last Tuesday with a 51-38 win over sixth-seeded Mark Twain in the quarterfinals.
Marion County got out to a 19-10 lead, and went into halftime up 26-21 before putting the Lady Tigers away with a 20-8 third-quarter run.
Keilholz had the hot shooting hand, sinking five three-pointers for a game-high 15 points, while Straus sank six field goals and two free throws for 14 points.
Also scoring were Tristen Holt, 10, Donath, nine, and Olivia Wood, three.
This week, the Lady Mustangs were scheduled to host North Shelby, Monday, travel to Higbee, Tuesday, and host Madison, Thursday.
They finish 2021 by hosting LaPlata, Dec. 20.
