The PHS girls varsity basketball team earned strong blowout victories over Bowling Green and Monroe City last week.

Palmyra’s Clare Williams guards a Bowling Green player during Thursday evening action.
The Lady Panthers (16-7, 4-2 CCC) capped the week with a 60-23 win over Bowling Green during Pink Out Night at the Gym Thursday.
Palmyra used a relentless full-court press to help spark a 23-4 run to open the contest and went into halftime with a comfortable 31-8 lead.
Nine Lady Panthers contributed on offense including Clare Williams, 15, Candra King, 11, Sydney Compton, 11, Jansen Juette, six, Taytum White, six, Ashley Bode, five, Abbey Redd, three, Jaynee Durst, two, and Bella McBride, one.

Palmyra’s Sydney Compton splits Bowling Green defenders to take a shot Thursday.
The Lady Panthers went to 4-2 in Clarence Cannon Conference play with a 54-36 win at Monroe City last Tuesday.
It didn’t look good early, however, as the host squad jumped out to a 16-5 lead.
Palmyra recovered to be within one at half time, and from then on, out-scored Monroe City, 30-11.
King scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter, sinking a three-pointer and six of six at the line during that early second-half surge.
Compton scored 17, and was followed by Juette, nine, Williams, six, and White, two.
This week, Palmyra completes the regular season schedule at Hannibal, Tuesday, and at home against Highland, Friday.
The second-seeded Lady Panthers earned a first-round bye in the Class 3, District 6 tournament action in Monroe City at Feb. 21-26, and will play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, against the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between third-seeded Highland and sixth-seeded Clark County.
The winner will advance to the championship game set for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25
