The Marion County R-II boys basketball team lost 65-57 to the Kirksville junior varsity squad during the Brashear Tournament last Monday.
Marion County (5-15) fell behind early but stayed within striking distance the rest of the way.
Joey Lagemann sank five of the team’s 13 three-pointers in scoring a team-high 17 points.
Also contributing on offense were Cooper Stotts, 10, Caden Stotts, eight, Jackson Stewart, eight, Wyatt Goldinger, eight, and Root Cheney, six.
Lagemann was named to the all-tournament team.
The Mustangs also lost a rescheduled game at Silex, 67-40, Tuesday.
Silex got out to a 21-12 lead and went into halftime up by 15.
Scoring for Marion County were Lagemann, 15, Goldinger, 11, Cooper Stotts, six, Caden Stotts, five, Stewart, two, and Cheney, one.
The Mustangs finish the regular season this week at Canton, Tuesday, and at home against South Shelby, Thursday.
The fifth-seeded Mustangs open the Class 1, District 11 Tournament in LaPlata at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, against fourth-seeded Brashear.
The winner will advance to the semifinals an take top-seeded North Shelby at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23.
