The PHS varsity girls basketball team went into districts riding a four-game winning streak, thanks to wins over Hannibal and Highland last week.

Palmyra’s Sydney Compton goes up for a shot during Tuesday’s win over Hannibal.
The Lady Panthers (18-7) capped the week with their second victory of the season at home over Highland, 66-45.
The final score is somewhat misleading as the Lady Cougars fell behind early, 13-5, but then went on a 20-9 run for a 25-22 halftime advantage.
Palmyra regained the advantage and went into the final quarter with a 40-35 lead, and finished off Highland with a 26-10 run.
Clare Williams and Kanda King led the offense with 26 and 21 points respectively.
Williams sank two of the team’s three three-pointers and added nine other field goals, while King sank the other three-pointer and all eight of her free throws.
Sydney Compton scored 10 of her 12 points during the second-half rally, while Jansen Juette added five points and Abbey Redd, two.
Palmyra finished with a 5-2 for second-place tie with Macon and Centralia in the Clarence Cannon Conference behind first-place South Shelby, 6-1.
The Lady Panthers struggled somewhat early but rebounded to win 50-30 at Hannibal last Tuesday.
After an 8-8 draw to start the game, Palmyra went on a 41-17 run to go into the final period up by 24.
The Lady Panthers enjoyed balanced scoring with starters Compton, 16 points, King, 13, Williams, 11, and Juette leading the way.
Coming off the bench to contribute were Taytum White, seven, Ashley Bode, two, and Jaynee Durst, one.
