The PHS varsity boys basketball season ended with a 64-43 loss to Highland in the Class 3, District 6 semifinals Friday in Monroe City.

Playing their second game against the Cougars in a week, second-seeded Palmyra (14-12) lost for the second time to third-seeded
Highland.
Palmyra fell into a hole early and were never able to extricate themselves as the Cougars jumped out to a 17-5 lead and went into halftime up by 11.
From there Highland out-scored the Panthers 35-25.
Playing in his final game as a Panther Laydin Lochman sank three three-pointers in contributing a team-high 13 points for Palmyra.
Also scoring were Bear Bock, six, Mason Roberts, six, Carson Hicks, five, Adam Goodwin, four, Alex Loman, three, Tyler Banta, three, and Ethan Redd, two.
It was the fourth battle between the two teams this season with Palmyra winning the first two, both third-place games of the Highland and Tony Lenzini Tournament.

But, Highland came back to Palmyra Feb. 18 to beat the Panthers, 61-50, in Clarence Cannon Conference play and then end Palmyra’s season exactly a week later.

Palmyra received a first-round bye and so had a seven-day layover between games.
Highland (19-10), 59-46 winners over sixth-seeded Clark County in the first round, went on to lose to top-seeded Monroe City, 69-40, in the district title game.
Monroe City (22-4) advances to Wednesday’s Class 3 sectional round and take on Duchesne (13-16) at St. Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles.
The winner will move on to Saturday’s quarterfinals round game at Battle High School and take on the winner of Wednesday’s sectional between Montgomery County (17-12) and Cole Camp (16-10).
The state finals will be played March 10-11 in Springfield, Mo.
