The Marion County R-II baseball team’s season came to an end with a 7-1 loss to Knox County in the quarterfinals of the Class 1, District 13 Tournament in Shelbyville, Friday.
The sixth-seeded Mustangs (6-7) fell behind quickly as the third-seeded Eagles scored a run in the second and four more in the third and then added two more in the fifth.
Marion County pushed a run across during their final chance to rally in the top of the seventh thanks to their only two hits in the game from Jackson Stewart and Cooper Stotts.
Knox County starter, Rylan Roberts, held the Mustangs hitless the first five innings, stroking out nine and walking one, before giving way to Blake Parrish, who shutout Marion County in the final two innings.
Knox County was to take on second-seeded LaPlata in the semifinals, Monday. Results were unavailable for this issue.
The Mustangs went into districts after earning a win at Missouri Military Academy and a loss at Elsberry earlier in the week.
