The PHS girls varsity tennis team won the Marshall Tournament Saturday, beating both the host team and Sedelia Smith-Cotton.
The Lady Panthers topped Smith-Cotton, 6-3, before edging Marshall, 5-4.

A 1-8 loss at Quincy High School last Thursday ended a four-match wining streak for the Lady Panthers.
Earning the team’s lone victory was the No. 2 doubles pair of Jeorgia O’Brien and Hadlie Kroeger, 9-7, over Amelia Willing and Andrea Cain.
Palmyra earned a 5-4 victory at home over Mexico, last Tuesday.
Winning singles matches were Maura Gottman (1), 8-1, over Katherine Gooch; Molly Gottman (2), 8-6, over Estella Ramirez-Lopez; and Abbey Mann (5), 8-1, over Lani Blair.
The No. 2 doubles team of O’Brien and Kroeger defeated Jylian Whitworth and Messiah Simpson, 8-5.
Palmyra also downed Fulton at home, 9-0, Sept. 8.
Winning singles matches were Maura Gottman (1), 8-4, over Jayna Davison; Molly Gottman (2), 8-0, over Victoria Hays; O’Brien (3), 8-2, over Madison Plybon; Kroeger (4), 8-6, over Kier Henderson; Mann (5), 8-6 (tiebreaker), over Marwa Sherzad; and Marina Meyer (6), 8-2, over Maelynn Kramer.
Winning doubles matches were: Maura Gottman and Molly Gottman (1), 8-6, over Davison and Henderson; O’Brien and Meyer (2), 8-5, over Hays and Plybon; and Kroeger and Mann (3), 8-2, over Sherzad and Kramer.
On Sept. 6, Palmyra traveled to Macomb, Ill. and won 7-2.
Winning singles matches were Maura Gottman (1), 8-2, over Kylie Jacques; Molly Gottman (2), 8-3, over Celena Managarla; Mann (5), 8-6, over Lanie Jones; and Meyer (6), 8-5, over Eliza Bernards.
Winning doubles matches were Maura Gottman and Molly Gottman (1), 8-2, over Stone and Jacques; O’Brien and Meyer (2), 9-7, over Managarla and Ivy Chapala; and Mann and Kroeger (3), 8-3, over Jones and Bernards.
Palmyra also competed in the Helias Invitational Tournament last Monday.
Placing in doubles were:
The No. 1 pair of Maura and Molly Gottman, first place;
The No. 2 pair of Abby Mann and Hadlie Kroeger, second place; and
The No. 3 pair of Emmelee Drebes and Ashley Bode, second place.
The No. 4 singles player, Laura Noland, took second place.
