The PHS varsity football team remained winless at 0-5 with a 48-20 home loss to Brookfield Friday.
The Panthers answered the Bulldogs first score with one of their own in the first quarter before the visitors scored three-straight touchdowns in building a 34-14 halftime lead.

Palmyra’s Aaron Ritchey eludes a Brookfield defender for some of his team-high 140 rushing yards.
Brookfield added two more scores in the third and fourth quarter to go up 48-14, before Palmyra scored for the final time.
Offensive statistics were actually relatively comparable as Brookfield accumulated 389 total yards to Palmyra’s 323. Palmyra even earned 17 first downs compared to the Bulldogs’ 16.
Each team also turned the ball over once.
Palmyra failed to move the ball following the games’ opening kickoff, but then stopped Brookfield without a first down on the ensuing possession.
But, Palmyra’s failed fake punt on its next possession gave the Bulldogs excellent field position at the Palmyra 48, and they took advantage when, on fourth down, quarterback Colton Parn hit a wide-open receiver, Kendrell Carter, down the middle for a 42-yard touchdown pass in going up 8-0.

Palmyra’s Ryan McKeown cradles the ball after on a 47-yard pass play that set up Palmyra’s first score.
The Panthers got their offense going on their next possession and answered with a touchdown of their own when Aaron Ritchey scored from seven yards out.
The touchdown was set up by a 47-yard pass down the left sideline from Marty Smyser III to Ryan McKeown.
Brookfield had their own answer on the next possession capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Peyton Parn.
The Panthers’ lone turnover proved costly on their next possession when Smyser lost the ball while being tackled, and Brookfield linebacker Amos Baum scooped the ball up and returned it 59 yards for the score that put Brookfield up 20-6.
Palmyra would score again in the second quarter on an 18-yard run by Aaron Ritchey.
But it was sandwiched in between touchdown passes of 44 and seven yards from Colton Parn to Gambal Staddle.
Bulldog running back, Baum added touchdown runs of 54 and 34 yards in the second half before Palmyra added its final touchdown on a six-yard run by Smyser with 5:46 to play.
Ritchey led Palmyra’s 247-yard rushing attack with 140 yards on 19 carries, while Ashton Hankins added 42 yards on nine carries.
Smyser completed five of 11 passes for 75 yards, with McKeown catching two for 54 yards and Ethan Redd, two for 21.
Baum collected 205 yards on 18 carries to lead the Bulldogs, while Colton Parn completed four of eight passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns.
Staddle had three receptions for 84 yards.
Hankins led Palmyra’s defense with 6.5 tackles, followed by Ritchey with 5.5.
The Panthers now go back on the road to play an undefeated Monroe City team which handed Centralia its first loss of the season, 28-7, Friday.
