The PHS varsity football season came to an end in the first round of districts Friday with a 31-0 loss at Hallsville.
The Panthers officially finished with an 0-10 record with the one victory over Highland forfeited due to a MSHSAA rules violation.
The last six regular season games with Macon, Brookfield, Monroe City, Clark County, Highland and South Shelby were forfeited after the football program had some players play more than six quarters in a week against MSHSAA rules.
The violations also effected four junior varsity and four freshmen games.
Hallsville built a 32-0 lead going into half time with four touchdowns, and then forced a continuous clock with a touchdown early in the third quarter.
Indians’ senior running back Harrison Fowler burned the Panthers for four touchdowns and 260 yards on 32 carries.
His scoring runs came from 35, 5, 2 and 2 yards out, and he also scored four two-point conversions.
The other Hallsville touchdown came on a 43-yard fumble recovery and return in the first quarter.
Palmyra managed just 39 yards of total offense that included 41 receiving yards and minus-two yards rushing.
Quarterback Trey Smyser completed six of 16 passes.
Ethan Redd caught three for 26 yards, while Ryan McKeown caught three for 15.
Gideon Bogue led the defense with seven tackles.
Third-seeded Hallsville advances to the Class 2, District 7 semifinals this Friday and will travel to second seeded Centralia, which earned a first-round bye.
The other semifinal has fourth-seeded Clark County, 32-12 winners over fifth-seeded Montgomery County, taking on top-seeded Bowling Green, also with a first-round bye.
