The PHS varsity boys basketball team ran its season-opening winning streak with impressive home wins over Quincy Notre Dame and Unity (Ill.) before suffering their first loss Saturday to Burlington (Iowa) during the River Rivalry Series in Keokuk, Iowa.

The Panthers (8-1) had their worst offensive output of the season in their 59-22 loss to Burlington.
Palmyra could not break into double figures in any of the four quarters and were out-scored 28-6 in the third quarter.
Scoring for Palmyra were Bronson Juette, six, Carson Hicks, six, Trey Smyser three, Bear Bock, Landen Gottman and Tyler Banta, with two, and Jeremiah Edwards, one.
The Panthers eighth victory of the season was a 50-45 win over Unity, Friday.
Palmyra built a 29-23 first-half led and then held on as Unity out-scored them 22-21 the rest of the way.
Scoring for Palmyra were Bock, 11, Hicks, eight, Smyser, seven, Banta, seven, Jon Lundberg, six, Ethan Redd, four, and Drew Copenhaver, two.

The Panthers ran their season opening win streak to seven with a rare 55-34 home win over Quincy Notre Dame last Tuesday.
The game was tight at first as Palmyra got out to a four-point, first-quarter edge, but played strong defense and out- scored the Raiders 37-20 the rest of the way.
Lundberg had the hot hand, sinking five three-pointers including three in the first quarter to lead the Panthers with 17 points.
Also scoring were Hicks, 13, Bock, eight, Banta, five, Smyser, five, Juette, four, Copenhaver, two, and Gottman, one.
QND’s leading scorer was Alex Connoyer, with nine, seven of which came in the first quarter.
The Panthers will end the calendar year at Louisiana, Tuesday.
