The PHS varsity girls basketball team suffered a big conference setback Friday, losing 64-41 at South Shelby.

The Lady Panthers (17-5, 4-1 CCC) had a chance to take control of the Clarence Cannon Conference championship race, but ended up losing control of their title-hopes to the Lady Birds, who went to 4-0 in the league, 19-2, overall.
Palmyra was responsible for one of South Shelby’s two losses, and were within striking distance of a second straight win over the Lady Birds, trailing by just six going into the final quarter.
But South Shelby held the Lady Panthers to three free throws while going on a 20-3 run to win going away.
Palmyra had no answer for Miranda Patterson who sank three treys, 13 total field goals and nine of 10 free throws in scoring a game-high 32 points.

Belle Rouch added 13 points, while Milli Mozee-Williams pulled down 13 rebounds and scored 10 points for South Shelby.
Candra King scored a team-high 20 points for Palmyra while grabbing nine rebounds.
Also scoring or Palmyra were Clare Williams, seven; Taytum White, seven; Abbey Redd, four; and Alaina Loman, three.
The Lady Panthers have two more conference games against Monroe City, Tuesday, and Highland, Feb. 17.
The Lady Panthers had little trouble in getting past Clark County, Tuesday, coming out strong and winning 56-22.
Palmyra utilized a full court press and stingy defense to coax turnovers and quick points in getting out to leads of 18-7 and 36-13 through the first half.
Palmyra collected 18 steals from the Lady Indians who committed 18 turnovers.
Sydney Compton was a force, sinking six of nine field goals, grabbing seven rebounds and collecting four thefts while scoring 16 points.
Williams also scored 16 points to go along with two steals and a blocked shot.
Also scoring were, White, 11; King, four; Ashley Bode, three; Avery Compton, three; and Jaelyn Chandler, three.
The Lady Panthers play a CCC game at home against Monroe City, Tuesday, before heading to Bowling Green, Thursday.
