Panthers drop season opener to Elsberry

The PHS varsity baseball team started the season the way they ended the last one, by losing to Elsberry, 11-0, Tuesday in Palmyra.
Playing in chilly and blustery weather, the Panthers were held to one hit, a fourth-inning single by Raeson Miller, while giving up 17 over five innings.

Colby Cook started and was relieved by Miller on the mound.
Palmyra was held in check by Kaden Kinsler, who started and went the first 3.2 innings giving up the one hit while striking out five.
He was relieved by Sean Phillips who finished without giving up a hit.
Elsberry (1-4) took a 3-0 lead in the second before padding their edge with seven in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Panthers saw their season end last year with a 9-3 loss to Elsberry in the Class 3 sectionals
The Panthers were supposed to open this season at the Southern Boone Cluster last Saturday, but it was weathered out.
Palmyra was also scheduled to host Canton Thursday, but it was postponed by rain to April 1.
This week, the Panthers were scheduled to travel across the river for games at Quincy Notre Dame, Tuesday, and Quincy High School, Thursday.
The Panthers have been assigned to Class 3, District 6 this season along with Clark County, Highland, Mark Twain, Monroe City and South Shelby.
