Panthers fall to Macon, Bowling Green last week

The PHS varsity baseball team remained winless after suffering losses last week to Macon and Bowling Green.
The Panthers opened Clarence Cannon Conference play at home against Macon, Tuesday, and fell 13-1.

The Tigers scored three in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead before shortening the game with seven in the fifth.
Macon (6-1) out-hit the Panthers (0-5), 14-4 behind the five-inning, complete game pitching of Drew Meisner, who gave up the lone earned run while walking three and striking out six.
Palmyra’s four scored its run when Josh Hathaway led off the bottom of the third with a single, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single by Jon Lundberg.
Ty Haskins and Rayce Ragar also had singles in the game.
Ethan Tallman started on the mound and went 3.1 innings before being relieved by Colby Cook.
The Panthers came oh-so close to victory last Monday in their 5-4 home loss to Bowling Green.
Down by one in the bottom of the seventh, Palmyra loaded the bases on three-straight singles by Rager, Hathaway and Rylan Compton, but then Raeson Miller hit a grounder to the Bowling Green third baseman, who started a 5-2-3 game-ending double play.
The Panthers were down 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, when they started their comeback, scoring single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to draw to within one.
Cook led off the fifth with a walk, and scored on a double by Gavin Greving and a Bobcat error.
Hathaway led off the sixth with a walk, moved to third on singles by Compton and Miller and came in to score on a double play.
Haskins singled to lead off the seventh and scored later on Compton’s single later in the inning.
Bowling Green took a 3-0 lead in the second, but Palmyra got one of the runs back when Haskins walked after a leadoff single by Greving, advanced to third on a walk to Rager and a single by Hathaway, and came in when Compton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Palmyra out-hit Bowling Green 14-10 but left 12 on base.
Greving started on the mound and went four innings bofore giving way to Miller, who finished the game.
The Panthers were scheduled to host Unity, Ill., Monday, before traveling to Clark County, Tuesday. They finish the week by hosting Monroe City.
