Kroeger, Janes qualify for state golf tournament

Two PHS boys golfers advanced to state with their performances during the Class 2, District 2 Tournament at the Norwoods Golf Course in Hannibal last Monday.
Skeeter Kroeger, playing in his first district tournament as a freshman, finished third by carding a nine-over-par 81, while Jonas Janes, a sophomore, finished 11th overall with an 88.

The two were to play in the Class 2 State Tournament, Monday and Tuesday of this week at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
Results were not available in time for this addition.
This was Janes’ second trip to state after making it during his freshman season last year.
Palmyra finished fourth out of 14 teams at the district tournament, carding a 356 to finish behind Lutheran St. Charles, 339, Herman, 347, and South Shelby, 347, but ahead of Missouri Military Academy, 374, Montgomery County, 375, Bowling Green, 377, North Callaway, 391, Highland, 398, Monroe City, 398, Clark County, 427, Duchesne, 433, Elsberry, 444, and South Callaway, 456.
Also playing for Palmyra were: Aaron Ritchey, tied for 21st place with a 93; Anthony White, tied for 24th place with a 94; and Preston Fuget, tied for 44th with a 101.
Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl won the tournament with a six-under-par 66.
Also competing in the districxt tournament were Bowling Green, Christian, Clark County, Duchesne, Elsberry, Hermann, Highland, Lutheran St. Charles, Maplewood-Richmond Hts., Missouri Military Academy, Monroe City, Montgomery County, North Callaway, South Callaway and South Shelby.
The PHS varsity boys golf team beat out two other teams at Monroe City May 1.
Palmyra carded a 177 to easily out-shoot the host team, 197, and Highland, 210.
Palmyra’s Preston Fuget took top honors with a 41.
Also playing for Palmyra were Jonas Janes, 42, Tony White, 46, Skeeter Kroeger, 48, and Aaron Ritchey, 51.
The junior varsity team also won with a 190 to top Monroe City, 205, and Highland 273.
Abram Smyser took top honors with a 41, and was followed on the team by Tate Hammond, 48, Jeremiah Edwards, 50, Brett Tuter, 51, and Abram Getz 52.
