PHS boys golf team members Jonas Janes and Skeeter Kroeger competed in the Class 2 State Golf Tournament in Springfield last Monday and Tuesday.
Playing on the Rivercut Golf Course, Janes, a sophomore, finished 28th out of 78 golfers, while Kroeger, a freshman placed 57th.
In his second trip to state, Janes shot a first-round 84 to go into Tuesday’s second round in 14th place and shot a 91 to drop 14 places.
Still, his performance bettered his first state appearance when he shot a 99 and 96 to finish in 54th place at the Columbia Country Club.
In his state debut, Kroeger opened with a 93, and followed up with a 94 on the second round.
Peyton Smith, of Summit Christian Academy took top honors shooting a 70 on the first day and 72 the second to beat out California’s William Stephen Boyd who led after the first day with a 68, but faltered with a 75 the next day.
Other Clarence Cannon Conference golfers competing were: Casen Glover, South Shelby, fifth place, 160; Jaaron Phillip Durbin, South Shelby, eighth place, 164; Philip Alexander Schmidt, Jr., South Shelby, 12th place, 167; and Payton Miller, Highland, 70th place, 206.
Summit Christian Academy won the team championship with a combined score of 630, 32 shots ahead of second-place California.
