The Marion County R-II baseball team saw its season end with a wild 13-11 loss to North Shelby in the district semifinals last Monday in LaPlata.
The sixth-seed Mustangs (5-14) had leads of 6-1 and 10-5, but let it get away as the second-seeded Raiders out-scored them 8-1 the rest of the way.
Jackson Stewart started and went the first four innings, giving up seven earned runs before giving way to Root Cheney who went the next one and a third innings, giving up the other six runs.
Joey Lagemann, Stewart and Cheney led the Mustangs seven-hit attack by going a combined 6-for-14 and driving in four runs while scoring six.
The Raiders went on to win Wednesday’s district title game, 8-7, over fourth-seeded Atlanta.
Atlanta had knocked off the top-seeded host squad, 8-5, in the semifinals.
North Shelby was to play the District 14 winner, Green City, in sectionals, May 22.
