The PHS varsity softball team opened Clarence Cannon Conference play with a 13-0 home loss to Monroe City Thursday.
Monroe City pounded out 14 hits while holding Palmyra to one over five innings.

Arizona Mitchell pitched four innings for Palmyra and was relieved by Riley Sutter.
Monroe City’s Lucy Pratt pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out 10 while walking three.
Grace Scifres got the lone hit for Palmyra a third-inning single.
Palmyra started the week with an 18-7 loss at home to LaPlata.
Trailing 7-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, Palmyra scored four runs and then added two more in the seventh to tie the game and sending it into extra innings, only to give up 11 runs in the top of the eighth.
Palmyra was out-hit 15 to nine.
Lexie Peuster went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and one driven in, while Sutter and Sophia Zeiger contributed two hits each.
Marney Plunkett started on the mound and was relieved by Mitchell.
Palmyra also hosted a cluster Saturday and played both Canton and Cairo. However, results were not made available in time for this issue.

This week, the Lady Panthers hit the road for games at Moberly, Monday, Clark County, Tuesday and Bowling Green, Thursday.
JV action
Palmyra played Monroe City to an 8-8 tie after five innings, Thursday.
Norah Augspurg had three hits, while Amaya Hamlin and Plunkett had two each.
Sutter and Plunkett shared pitching duties.
Palmyra also lost to LaPlata 19-2, Tuesday.
Sutter and Aubrey Hillman accounted for the team’s two hits.
