Lady Panthers go to 3-0 in conference

The PHS varsity softball team went to 3-3 in conference play last week with a win over Brookfield following a loss to Highland.
The Lady Panthers (6-11) went on the road to earn their third Clarence Cannon Conference victory of the season, 6-2, over Brookfield, Thursday.
Down 1-0 going into the top of the third, Palmyra rallied for three runs on three hits when Sophie Zeiger singled and Madi Fessenden reached on a error to start the frame, and scored on a one-out double by Lexi Peuster, who crossed home on a two-out single by Hailey Kroeger.
Palmyra scored three insurance runs on an RBI groundout by Zeiger in the fourth, a home run by Peuster in the fifth, a double by Alaina Loman and an RBI single by Jerzey Ramey in the seventh.
Arizona Mitchell pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and two walks while striking out three.
Palmyra was no-hit by Highland in a 15-0 loss last Tuesday.
Emma Hershberger, a senior, pitched four innings of no-hit ball, and the Lady Cougars put up 13 runs in the bottom of the first.
The Lady Panthers also played at a cluster hosted by Southern Boone Saturday.
Palmyra lost, 12-10, to Mexico and lost, 15-1, to the host team.
This week, the Lady Panthers were scheduled to travel to Canton Monday, host Troy Wednesday and Centralia, Thursday before finishing the week at Moberly, Saturday.
Palmyra finishes the regular season at home against Hannibal, Sept. 9.
JV action
The junior varsity squad went 0-2 last week, losing to both Brookfield and Highland.
Palmyra (1-7-1) lost at Brookfield, 8-3, Thursday.
The Lady Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Brookfield won it with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Zeiger hit a double, and Caydence Deming, Grace Scifres and Nora Augspurg had singles for Palmyra.
Marney Plunkett and Scifres took turns on the mound.
Palmyra lost at Highland, 12-5, last Tuesday.
Adyson Dorsey had two hits, including a double, while Plunkett, Deming and Sierra Hudson hit singles.
