Turnovers foiled a valiant comeback attempt by the Palmyra varsity football team in a 44-22 loss at Clark County Friday.
After falling behind 26-6 in the first half, the Panthers (1-6 overall, 1-4 CCC) scored on the first possession of the second half on a 14-yard pass from Rylan Compton to Peirce White.

The subsequent two-point pass from Compton to White trimmed the Indians lead to 26-14 less than two minutes into the second half.
Fired up by the successful drive, the Panther defense forced Clark County to punt, giving the offense a chance to make it a one-score game.
However, Palmyra fumbled the ball away on the third play, giving Clark County a short field The Indians capitalized, scoring five plays later to go up 32-14 with 4:07 left in the second quarter.
Palmyra came back quickly, however, when Wyatt Augspurg returned the ensuing kick off to the Indian two.
Aaron Ritchey scored two plays later, and Compton hit White with a two-point pass to cut the deficit to 10 points with 2:55 left in the third quarter.
The Panthers got a brilliant opportunity to make it a close game when they recovered an onside kick that bounced around in and out of several players’ hands before Palmyra fell on it at their own 40.
But, Palmyra failed to move the ball, and was forced to punt, and the Indians raised their lead immediately when running back Jonny Shinn found daylight and ran 81 yards for a touchdown to make the score 38-22.
