The PHS varsity football team ended the regular season with a 55-0 loss at South Shelby Friday.
It turned out to be the Cardinals celebration of completing a perfect 7-0 Clarence Cannon Conference championship.

The Panthers (2-7, 2-5 CCC) fought hard early on, stopping the Cardinals first drive and holding them to a first-quarter field goal.
But South Shelby, got it going in the second quarter scoring four touchdowns while converting two Palmyra turnovers into points in building a 31-0 halftime lead.
The Panthers forced the Cardinals to go three and out to start the game, and then managed to halt a South Shelby drive at their own seven, from where the Cardinals Kendal Hammond booted a 25-yard field goal at the 3:50 mark of the first quarter.
Palmyra gained 40 yards on its next possession before Wyatt Augspurg downed a Rylan Compton punt at the South Shelby one-yard line.
But, the Cardinals answered the challenge with a seven-play 99-yard drive capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass form Chase Moellering to Preston Elsen to go up 11-0 early in the second quarter.

Palmyra threatened to score on the next drive, reaching the Cardinal 29 when South Shelby’s Cameron Wiseman picked off a pass and returned it 90 yards for a
touchdown that gave his team a 17-0 lead with 6:35 left in the half.
South Shelby returned a Palmyra punt to the Panther 48 and needed just three plays to score on a 26-yard touchdown run by Hammond.
The Cardinals intercepted another Palmyra pass and completed their first-half scoring two plays later on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Moellering to Wisman.
The Cardinals would force a continuous clock in the second half while adding 24 more points.
The victory earned top-seeded South Shelby a first-round bye in the Class 2, District 7 tournament which starts this Friday.
Palmyra received the fifth seed and will travel to Kahoka to play fourth-seeded Clark County in the first round Friday.
Palmyra lost at Clark County, 44-22, Oct. 6.
The Indians are coming off a 22-12 loss to Monroe City this past Friday.
