The PHS girls wrestling team opened the season by competing in the Wright City Wildcats Girls Tournament Saturday.

Three Lady Panthers placed including Ellyse Lorenson, who took first place at 170 pounds, and Janie Triplett (135 pounds) and Kyndal Wilt (130 pounds) who both placed third.

After receiving a first-round bye, Lorensen won four-straight matches to win her title, capping the string by pinning Union’s Gianna Schreck at 1:34.

Lorensen won her second round match by fall over Schreck at 2:38, won by fall 0:56 in the quarterfinals over Mexico’s Abigail Seibert and won a 3-0 decision over Moberly’s Breanne Gibbs in the semifinals.

Wilt lost her first two matches but battled her way back to take third place by pinning Union’s CJ Sullivan at 2:30.

She advanced to the third-place match by pinning Moberly’s Zoey Richardson at 0:47.

Wilt lost her first-round match by fall at 1:12 to Elizabeth Riggs, of Wright City.

She then lost by major decision, 12-4, to Pacific’s Zoe Fisher.

Triplett took third place with a 9-7 decision over Mexico’s Abigail Bowen.

After receiving a first-round bye, Triplett lost by fall at 1:30 to Caitlyn Sullivan of Osage.

Triplett then came back to win her next two matches by fall over Osage’s Lily Neal at 5:21, and over Winfield’s Emma Jenkins at 0:25.

This past week, the Lady Panthers were assigned to Class 1, District 2 along with Blair Oaks, Boonville, Brookfield, California, Carrollton, Centralia, Chillicothe, Fatima, Fulton, Hallsville, Holt, Jennings, Kirksville, Lutheran St. Charles, Macon, Marceline, Marshall, Mexico, Moberly, Normandy, North Callaway, Orchard Farm, South Callaway, Southern Boone, St. Charles, St. Charles West, STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley, Tipton, Trenton, Warrenton, Winfield and Wright City.

The Panthers were assigned to Class 1, District 3 along with, Brookfield, Carrollton, Centralia, Father Tolton Regional Catholic, Gallatin, Lafayette County, Lexington, Macon, Marceline, Missouri Military Academy, Missouri School for the Deaf, North Callaway, Penney, Polo and Trenton.
