The PHS varsity girls basketball team earned a 59-40 win at home over Louisiana last Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers (7-1) raced out to an 18-10 lead and went into halftime up 36-18 before cruising on to victory.
Three starters scored in double figures including Clare Williams, 15, Candra King, 15, and Sydney Compton, 12.
Taytum White scored nine, Alaina Loman, two, and Jaelyn Chandler came off the bench to sink two of the team’s eight three pointers. All of White’s points were scored from outside the arc, and Clair Williams hit all three of hers in the first half.
Next up, Palmyra will take on Oak Grove (5-4) a Class 4 team, during the 12 Courts of Christmas Shootout Dec. 29 at the HyVee Arena in Kansas City. Game-time is 4:15 p.m.
Starting with the new year, the top-seeded Lady Panthers received a first-round bye in the Highland Tournament and will play in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, against the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Kirksville and fifth-seeded Highland.
