Norma Jean Obert, 93, of Palmyra, MO passed away at 11:31 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra, MO. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Norma’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.
Norma was born November 28, 1930, in Quincy, IL, to Raymond Wellman and Clara Schreacke Wellman. She was married to Edward W. Obert Jr. on May 20, 1950, in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death January 7, 2017.
Survivors include her children, Linda Reeves (Clint), Marcia Frericks, Randy Obert (Susie), Ricky Obert (Cecelia), Steve Obert (Joanne), Dave Obert (Brenda), Brian Obert (Karla), Lori Bohne, Lisa Eckman (Chris), brothers, Kenneth Wellman and Ronald Wellman (Susie), sister, Mary Ann Hildebrand (David), sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Liggett, Joyce Wellman, and Delores Obertand, 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Edwin Wellman (Mary Ann), William Wellman (Mary Lou), and Eugene Wellman, sisters, Sis Obert (Virg), granddaughter, Michelle Richardson, great grandson, DJ Steffen, sons-in-law, Bob Frericks and Phil Bohne, brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Irene Schreacke, Lawrence and Dolly Schreacke, Jim and Betty Brinkman, Charlie and Carlene Peters, Bob Liggett, Wilfred and Florence Obert, Kenny and Norma Jean Obert, Leroy Obert, and Mary Louise Wellman.
Norma was a cherished homemaker providing great care and attention to her husband and 9 children. Her life was a testament to her passion for nurturing both her home and community. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from the flavors of her home-cooked meals to the vibrant garden she tended to, often canning her harvest to enjoy year-round.
An avid collector, Norma’s array of porcelain dolls was a sight to behold. Her love of puzzles, the drama of “Days of our Lives”, and the thrill of the Game Show Network were matched only by her affection for her beloved dogs, Sheba and Reba. Norma was a master of cards, always ready for a game with friends and family.
Above all, Norma was a beacon of hospitality, her home a welcoming haven for all. Her presence was the highlight of family reunions, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Norma Jean was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Palmyra.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Bohne, Chris Obert, Kevin Reeves, Jason Riley, Will Obert, Michael Reeves, Kent Reeves, and Jody Steffen.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Palmyra Food Pantry.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her granddaughters.
