PHS boys, girls receive top seeds for Tony Lenzini Tournament

The PHS girls and boys basketball teams received the top seed in the 80th annual Tony Lenzini Basketball Tournament Jan. 16-21.
The Lady Panthers will open play at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, against eight-seeded Mark Twain, with the Panthers following up at 6 p.m. against eighth-seeded Highland.
The girls winner will advance to the semifinals and play at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, against the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Highland and fifth-seeded Monroe City.
The other two girls quarterfinal games Tuesday feature second-seeded Canton and seventh-seeded Van-Far, and third-seeded Hannibal against sixth-seeded Clark County.
The girls third-place game is set for 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, while the championship game will be played at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
A boys quarterfinal win would send the Panthers to the semifinals and play at 6 p.m. Wednesday and play the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Mark Twain and fifth-seeded Canton.
The other two boys quarterfinals Tuesday feature second-seeded Hannibal against seventh-seeded Monroe City and third-seeded Van-Far against sixth-seeded Clark County.
The boys third-place game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, while the championship game is at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The crowning of the tournament queen will be held during halftime of Tuesday’s 7:30 p.m. girls quarterfinal game between Hannibal and Clark County.
Last year’s tournament winners were the Monroe City boys and the Canton girls.
