The PHS varsity girls basketball team won the first two games of the season at home under new coach, Kelsey Stuart.
Palmyra won easily over Mark Twain, Tuesday, to start the season before answering the challenge from Canton, Thursday.

The Lady Panthers overcame some poor shooting with strong defense to hold off Canton, 48-39.
They notched 14 steals and three blocked shots, while forcing 19 turnovers by the Lady Tigers, who shot just 27 percent from the floor while going 0-for-9 from outside the arc.
Palmyra shot just 19 of 56 from the floor, including just three of 19 from long range.
Candra King was seven of 14 from the floor and five of seven from the line in leading all scorers with 19.
The senior post player also grabbed 10 rebounds and led the team with four assists.
Also scoring were Clare Williams, 10, Alaina Loman, five, Taytum White, five, Sydney Compton, four, Jaelyn Chandler, three, and Ashley Bode, two.
The Lady Panthers opened the season with a 58-24 win at home over Mark Twain last Tuesday.
Palmyra jumped out to a 19-5 lead and went into halftime up 31-18 before out-scoring the Lady Tigers 27-6 the rest of the way.
King led the way for Palmyra, scoring the first two points shortly after tip-off and 15 for the game to go along with 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.
Compton and Williams both scored 11 points while contributing a combined six rebounds, six assists and seven steals.
Chandler sank three of four three pointers for nine points, while White hit two of five long shots and scored eight points to go along with five assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
Bode came off the bench to score four points and grab three rebounds, while blocking two shots.
The Lady Panthers shot 40 percent from the floor, including six of 17 from outsides the arc, and sank six of 12 from the free throw line.
They also turned the ball over 25 times.
The top-seeded Lady Panthers were scheduled to open Monroe City Tournament play Tuesday against eight-seeded Mark Twain.
