R-II girls fall out of North Shelby Tournament
The Marion County R-II girls basketball team went 0-2, losing to Knox County and Scotland County at the North Shelby Tournament last week.
The Lady Mustangs (7-6) fell out of the tournament with a 50-40 loss to Knox County in the consolation semifinals Thursday.
Trailing by seven at the half, the Lady Mustangs drew to within one going into the final period before Knox County went on a 13-4 run to end the contest.
Scoring for Marion County were Olivia Wood,12, Delaney Staus, 10, Halle Keilholz, nine, Madison Stewart, six, and Riley Donath, three.
Marion County opened tournament action with a 55-46 quarterfinal loss to Scotland County Tuesday.
Scotland County took a 28-18 lead into halftime and outscore the Lady Mustangs in every quarter.
The loss came despite the offensive efforts of Keilholz, who had the hot hand, sinking six three-pointers and leading all scorers with 24 points.
Also scoring for Marion County were Straus, 10, Stewart, six, Donath, three, and Wood, three.
In boys action, the Mustangs also fell out of the tournament in two games, losing to Knox County, 69-35, and South Shelby, 72-46.
This week, Marion County was scheduled to host Atlanta, Tuesday and Mark Twain, Thursday.
