Panthers hold on for 54-51 win over Elsberry in season opener

The PHS varsity boys basketball team opened the season with a 54-51 win over Elsberry in front of the home crowd last Tuesday.

The Panthers jumped out to a good start, and it was a good thing they did, because the visitor roared back in the second half to make it close down the stretch.
Palmyra got out to an 18-9 lead thanks to three-pointers from Bear Bock, Trey Smyser, Jon Lundberg and Carson Hicks.

The Panthers maintained that scoring formula during an 18-18 second quarter as Hicks added two more three-pointers while Bronson Juette and
Tyler Banta each sank one.
Palmyra out-scored Elsberry, 11-8 in the third quarter before the Indians went on a 16-7 game-ending run.
Palmyra enjoyed balanced scoring from seven different players including Hicks, 15, Juette, 13, Bock, eight, Banta, six, Lundberg, five, Smyser, five, and Drew Copenhaver, two.
This week, the Panthers were scheduled to travel to Mark Twain, Tuesday, and Canton, Friday, before competing in the Monroe City Tournament the following week.
