R-II girls add wins over Community, Bevier

The Marion County R-II girls basketball team went to 3-1 with wins over Community and Bevier last week.
The Lady Mustangs went into this week’s Monroe City Tournament after cruising to a 54-17 win at Bevier, Thursday.
Leading 25-6 at halftime, Marion County assured victory with a 23-7 third-quarter run.
Marion County held the Wildcats to just five field goals for the entire game.
Meanwhile, three Lady Panthers scored in double figures, including Aylah Pollard, 19, Kennedy Hathaway, 11, and Grace Jensen-Page, 11.
Also contributing on offense were Riley Holt, five, Shayleigh Whetstone, four, and Sam Kindhart, four.
The Lady Mustangs opened the week with a 45-35 win at Community last Tuesday.
Marion County jumped out to a 16-8 lead and went into halftime up 22-15. They then out-scored Community 23-20 the rest of the way.
Aylah Pollard scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the second half, while Kennedy Hathaway led the team to its early lead by scoring nine of her 14 points in the first half.
Also contributing on offense were Riley Holt, five, Grace Jensen-Page, four, Sam Kindhart, three and Shayleigh Whetstone, two.
The seventh-seeded Lady Mustangs were scheduled to open the Monroe City Tournament Monday against second-seeded South Shelby. Results were not available for this issue.
